Consultancy Services

I have been in the field of Behaviour Analysis since 1996, when I began working with a young child with autism in a home-based programme. Since then, I have worked with well over 500 children and young adults.

I divide my time between academic teaching, diagnostic assessments, consulting with families and mentoring BCBAs. I maintain a very hands-on approach and continue to go down on the floor to work with each child I supervise.

My approach to intervention is based on a deep understanding of ABA as an evidence-based approach to education as well as childhood development. I do not employ a particular intervention model or package, but design each child’s intervention taking into account the child as a whole, their preferences and unique motivations and their distinctive style of learning.

Evaluation

The objective of the evaluation is to carry out an individualised assessment of a child’s skills in all important developmental areas (communication, language, play, academics and independent skills) and learning barriers (problem behaviour), and consequently to provide specific intervention guidelines to support the current educational programme.

Aside from parents, the presence of tutors and the ABA consultant is highly recommended. Such arrangement is particularly productive, common goals can be discussed and the most effective procedures modelled and tested for their sustainability by those who know the child best.

The evaluation is carried out at the ABA Clinic, Southampton, Hampshire, and it can last one or two days depending on the request and needs.

ABA Consultancy

Each year I take on one or two young children as an ABA consultant for Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention, as outlined in the evidence based practice literature. My model of intervention strongly focuses on the development of early social responding through the establishment of social chains to promote communication and early social behaviours (i.e., joint attention).

Skinner’s analysis of verbal behaviour guides the language programming with the integration of Skinner’s more complex concepts (i.e., multiple control) to ensure that language is generative and spontaneous and can be emitted in all relevant contexts.

I use a curriculum guide developed through the research programme at the University of Southampton (Early Behavioural Intervention Curriculum, 2011) as a framework for sequencing the objectives in developmental order as well as a range of assessment tools to evaluate progress (e.g., VB-MAPP). I can only take on families within the Southampton and Hampshire areas.

ADOS Assessments

I am able to carry out ADOS assessments for confirmation of suspicion of Autistic Spectrum Disorder in children from the age of 12 months through to early adulthood. All ADOS assessments are conducted in Southampton. Outcomes of the ADOS assessment will need to be confirmed by the local multidisciplinary team.
